I just moved to Fargo, ND and am working on finishing my Paramedic schooling. I heard you can get your RN with an additional 9 months of schooling after certified as a paramedic. If anyone could help me out and let me know any info they know that would be great. I live right on the border of MN so I could do classes in either state. Thanks!

Here in Oklahoma you can bridge from Paramedic to RN in about a year depending on whether you have an Associates or if you are a Paramedic through a certificate only program. I am sad to hear that it is not offered in all states

I can't speak for all of NY as NYC is has different rules than most of the state but in Central NY I know the RN curriculum largely parallels much of the Paramedic curriculum but you have to redo most of what you learn due to the fact that the paramedic curriculum isn't given college credit so it's you can't cross apply one to the other. That said there isn't any real direct bridge from AEMT-P to RN here. Then again... what isn't backwards in NY!? :)

Virginia did away with the "official" EMT-P to RN "bridge"(crossover) program. However, if you did your medic training at a community college, some of the same classes(A&P, Pharmacology, etc) you did for medic are the same as for the 2yr RN program. So, you don't have to repeat those courses again.

Lupe, good luck with the medic class. I cant speak for all 50 states, but here in Va, I think the EMT-P to RN bridge is pretty much gone. There may be a few "lingering" programs out there, but for the most part, they're history. Not sure why that bridge program got cut. Oh well.

As far as the military army medic position goes. Good luck with that. Just to plug the Navy (former Navy here), you should look into that also. There may be more diverse HM (corpsman/medic) opportunities. You can become an IDC (Independent Duty Corpsman), go SOF and be a medic in the SEAL teams or with USMC. Just something to think about. I can give you more detailed Navy "stuff" if you want. Just ask. . If I dont know the answer, I knwo enough people that I could ask.

Kyle,

Thats cool. My ambitions arent that high. I plan on Nursing Practioner and open my own practice, or partner up with somebody. Probably family medicine, Pediatriacs or Cardiology.
