You don't think it's even remotely possible that getting shocked by an ICD increased the patient's blood pressure? When you call someone a liar, you better be right! I would also caution you not to judge an entire department by the actions of one, o…

My name is Tom Bouthillet. I'm a Lieutenant / Paramedic with Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue. I've been in the fire service since 1997 and I've been a paramedic since 1995.

I'm an ACLS instructor and I've taught Acute Coronary Syndromes and 12 Lead ECG interpretation around the country in various UMBC-affiliated Critical Care Transport (CCEMT-P) courses and as a consultant.

I'm co-moderator of the EMS-to-Balloon (E2B) Challenge listserv at Yahoo! and the EKG Club listserv at Yahoo!

I started the Prehospital 12 Lead ECG blog in October 2008.

In January 2009 I was invited to be a member of the EMS Advisory Committee for the SC Chapter of the AHA's Mission: Lifeline (STEMI initiative).

Thanks so much for all your advice! I will definitely keep it all in mind when I start the paramedic program. During EMT-I school I pretty much stuck closer to the nurses and just a select few medics. Most of them were just so "burnt out", and patient care was not tope priority. I really hate seeing that. I just wish that when they get that way, they would just move on. I leanred a lot of my fire skills from the firefighters that EMS was housed with. Now those guys definitely had their sutff together. Of course it was city v. county, and the city definitely has my vote! The county just really doesn't have things together from what I could see, and I am new to all of this, so if I say something is wrong, then something is wrong. I just try to ignore their bad habbits and remember that the persons that I put my hands on, are someone elses loved one, that never fails!

I see that you are located at Hilton Head. I am currently working for a law firm that has an office there, Allen-Kopet & Associates, its one of our main branches. There is a guy that came to Thomasville, that use to be a firefighter is SC, but I am not sure which department and/or city.

Thanks again for all your advice! I guess I am just worried. Its been a few years since EMT-I school, and I haven't been keeping up with things like I should. I have been studying a lot here lately just to refresh myself, and get back on track. I went through fire school after EMT school, so I mainly focused on fire. I am really more about the fire side of the emergency services, but they both go hand and hand so I better keep up with both! Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon!

Hey Tom,

Would you be willing to field test a new supraglottic airway from LMA North America? It's the LMA Supreme and I can get you hooked up with product and training free. I really need some critical evaluation of it here in the States from a service with some relevant experience. I want somebody to compare this to the King on the street and tell me what's better. In many ways it does the exact same thing as the King Airway, but could be faster and even easier - with one more adult size and soon pediatric. http://www.lmasupreme.com/pwpcontrol.php?pwpID=1439

Respectfully, Dan
