It is a cool gig to be able to work EMS at sporting events. A group was offered to cover a golf touney in GA. Part of the deal was that they would receive Masters golf tickets. Would it be out of the ordinary for companies to agree to pick up Dental plans in exchange for coverage o… Continue

Adam Keener Frustration...

Recently went on a call with a patient complaining of being cold, flu like symptoms...turns out this patient had recently had a liver transplant, and his body was rejecting it, but his wife never shared this information and he was never asked or offered it, we asked medical history of her while they worked him into the cot to roll, and all we were instructed was slipped discs in his back...probably our own fault for not asking him too but how could you forget a vital piece of information like th… Continue

Greg Friese Reality and EMS Professionalism

The second episode of “Trauma” – the new prehospital drama – from NBC was on last night. I missed it. I was watching the Packers-Viking game (don't talk to this Packers fan about unfulfilled expectations). I had low expectations for “Trauma,” as I do for most television shows. I don’t think I have ever expected fictional dramatic shows to accurately portray any profession. Reality shows can hardly be counted on for reality. I don’t think “Top Chef” is giving me any better idea of what is like to… Continue

RevMedic Contradiction In Terms?

I recently delivered a patient to the Emergency Department. There were two staff members receiving the patient, who was a little goofy. In fact, he/she had some aphasia, and was unable to communicate. One staff member was attaching the monitoring equipment, while the other was entering information into the computer. The patient was attempting, rather unsuccessfully, to answer questions from the staff members. When it came time to document the patients' level of consciousness, the staff member… Continue

Bryan Fass Bench Press

I had a long conversation today with the Chief of a small town department. He works for a small city paid department nearby and it seems they had their annual PFT. One of the ‘tests’ was to bench press a % of your body weight a certain number of repetitions. He knows of 2 guys who tore their Rotator Cuff (easily out for 9 months) and two more who significantly strained their shoulders. Really folks, when did laying flat on your back 1) prevent injury 2) improve balance 3) improve muscular endur… Continue
