Essays and resume have become a major part of a formal education. Secondary students are taught structured essay formats to improve their writing skills, and
essays are often used by universities in selecting applicants and, in
the humanities and social sciences, as a way of assessing the
performance of students during final exams. The concept of an "essay"
has been extended to other mediums beyond wr

My much belated New Year's resolution is to once again become an EMT. Back in my early twenties, I rode shotgun in Denver for 18 months before I had my first son. Family life took over and I decided to go work for my family. But, I'm getting a little older (heck, the last ambulance I was in looked like a hearse rather than these new warmachines with a
laptop mount and GPS system) and after spending 2…

At three thirty eight in the morning I was sitting at Station Three, working on a report, when the telephone rang. I was first up for a call, which means the next time the phone rang, it was my job to answer it and respond to whatever call that might be. Oftentimes it's nothing special–a nursing home resident who was treated in an emergency room who is now being discharged and needs to be returned to the facility, for example. Other times, it's something ridiculous, like someone with a headache…

A great article on one of the ‘gurus’ of spine biomechanical research, a lot of his data was used in designing the Fit Responder Program.
After three decades of figuring how out the spine works, Stuart McGill has come to loathe sit-ups. It doesn’t matter whether they are the full sit-ups beloved by military trainers or the crunch versions so ubiquitous in gyms. “What happens when you perform a sit-up?” he asks.
“The spine is flexed into the position at which it damages sooner.”
The profes…

There is a group just for us/you now. My very first EMS job was a eye opening experience just in the shear number of people "like us" working at one small private ambulance service.

Way back when, I was a baby EMT. My first EMT class was a marathon 2-week experience held in Sitka, Alaska.
One of the instructors was a recent transplant from Texas, bringing with her a Texas attitude. Brass & blonde, Wendy helped to educate a bunch of folks gathered from around Southeast Alaska. She helped to mold us into medical providers, helping our fellow citizens in whatever town or village we came from.
My fondest memory of Wendy from that class was the day she had me up in front o…

Erstwhile Firefighter: OK, Ma'am, we're gonna pick you up on your count of three!
RevMedic: (Thinking to myself) Why does SHE have to do the counting? (The concept that he, as a firefighter, was incapable of doing so, did not strike me until just now).
EF: One, Two, Three! (Lifts the LOL up onto her feet) I guess I did the counting, huh?
A moment later, the patient safely strapped onto the gurney & ready to be lifted to the 'load' position...
EF: OK, Ma'am, we're…

Last night was a bad one.
It's been 20 years since the last time I've had to deal with that type of trauma - physical and emotional.
A life cut short way too soon.
I saw, heard, and felt things that the average, normal person should never have to encounter.
We were first in on a horrible tragedy. On assessing the patient it became painfully evident that there was absolutely nothing we could do, try to do, hope to do, to reverse the course.
My partner, much younger than I, on her first such…

I have a question; We are a small agency that does on an average of 800 calls a year. We are looking to bring our agency up to modern times and go to electronic PCRs. We are looking into these three companies:
EmsCharts
Zoll Epcrs
Eso Solutions
Does anyone have any idea, what the Pros and Cons are to each of these or preference as to which one is better? Thanks. Keith

I have been in EMS as a first responder for 7 years and now I will be starting to work part time for an ambulance company. I intend to retake Emt basic and get state liscensed, then try to continue on to paramedic and pursue a dream that has proven elusive for the past few years. My question is this, what are the pre-requisites, and can I do them online? If so, where do I go online to do them? If any one could help me out with this, please email me at weldonschmidt@gmail.com Thanks!!
